Learning

At St Mary's we aim to foster a lifelong love of learning, through adopting a "hands on” real life approach to learning. Our curriculum aims to deliver an education fit for the twenty-first century enabling our children to have the skills needed to be great people within our society.

We value the way in which all children are unique, and our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures.  Respect is a key word at St Mary's and at the heart of all we do — "Respect for ourselves, "Respect for each other, Respect for our school and Love God" is our school mission statement driving our community to be the best we can be. We value and foster the spiritual and moral development of each person and our vision is for all to achieve their true potential, academically and personally.

The word learning is an everyday word and so it’s important to clarify what we mean by learning. Learning is much deeper than memorisation and information recall. Deep and long-lasting learning involves understanding, relating ideas and making connections between prior and new knowledge, independent and critical thinking and ability to transfer knowledge to new and different contexts.
