The Governing Body at St. Mary’s is, like most governing bodies, volunteers drawn from four discreet groups who bring to the school a range of skills and expertise to assist in its governance.

The structure of the Governing Body is made up of Foundation Governors, elected by the Diocese of Brentwood,  Parent Governors, elected by parents,  Staff Governors, elected by staff; this also includes the Headteacher and 1 Local Authority Governor. Governors serve one term of office, this is usually four years. The full Governing Body meet at least once per term and the sub-committees of Premises & Finance and Personnel meet at least every term.

Parents who wish to contact a member of the Governing Body, may do so by contacting Mrs Alison Bishop, Clerk to Governors on:

  Tamar Harrod - Parent Governor
My name is Tamar Harrod and I was elected as a parent Governor. I have
two children attending St. Mary’s Catholic Primary school and have
experienced first-hand the wonderful ethos and learning environment
that the school provides.  I wanted to be part of this and to help support
the staff in ensuring success and happiness for all our children. My
experience is in Finance and Technology and I work as a Technology
Analyst in Leicester Square for the biggest commercial radio station in
Europe.

Joyanna Shaw - Foundation Governor

My name is Joyanna Shaw, I have been a foundation governor for three
years. I am an active parishioner at Our Lady Star of Sea church and
have lived in Tilbury for 18 years. Education is very important to everyone
and the primary school is the foundation of which to build our knowledge,
experience and religion within a safe and healthy environment so was
very pleased to be asked to be a governor to support St. Mary’s. My work
experience is within a shipping environment which operates at
Tilbury Docks.

  Serene Yeboah Jackson- Parent Governor
My name is Serene. I am the elected Parent Governor alongside Mrs Harrod. I currently have 1 child attending the school, and 2 older daughters at Secondary School. St.Mary's provides an education to all children, regardless of ability to ensure each child reaches their full potential. This why I wanted to become a Governor. I want every child to be at the centre of all we do, to raise achievement, to ensure wellbeing and to be proud of every child at the school, not just my own.

 Lynne Nixon - Staff Governor
My name is Lynn, I am delighted to be part of the Governing Body at St.Mary's School to support  the school in developing a culture where all can learn and succeed. My 3 children attended the  school and now 2 currently attend University and the other is at College. I too have developed my role. I first started at the school as a Teaching Assistant, I then trained to become an HLTA, and then decided to continue my education by attending university and gaining my degree to become a teacher at the school.

Natalie Kerin - Foundation Governor

My name is Natalie Kerin and I am a Foundation Governor.  I am an active member of the parish and a confirmation catechist. My eldest son is currently being educated in a catholic school in the local area. As someone with 17 years teaching experience in Thurrock, I have a firm interest in the development of young people. I want to play my part in making St. Mary's the best it can be.

Sarah Bull - Founation Governor
My name is Sarah Bull I live in Tilbury and I am an active member of the parish since moving here in 2000. I have worked on various parish projects such as ‘Mary’s Meals’.
I work as an Office Manager at the Enterprise Distribution Centre and the Cruise Terminal for the Port of Tilbury.  My duties include managing budgets, statistical analysis, report writing.  I am currently studying BSL at Remark and my future ambition is to work with the deaf in our community.
I have two boys who attend St Mary’s School. I am looking forward to working with everyone at St Mary’s to make our School a safe, fun place for our children to learn and achieve their full potential.

  Ngozi Oguledo - Foundation Governor
I was honoured to be proposed and subsequently appointed as a Foundation Governor at St.Mary's School. As a member of the Teaching profession  myself, I hope to bring my skills and religious background to support the life of the school.

Angela Odozi - Foundation Governor

"My name is Angela, I recall how exhilarated I was to be appointed as a Foundation Governor at St Mary’s School. I am a member of the parish community and actively supports the church, I work with the Local Authority (Homeless Department). I am a professional with BA/Master’s degree in Psychosocial and International Law. I believe that my experience and qualifications would enable me to communicate effectively, listen and contribute positively to the improvement and development of St Mary’s school. My son who is currently in his first year in university, attended St Mary’s School few years ago and I can definitely say that he enjoyed the many opportunities provided by the school, as well as the care he received from the qualified teachers and staffs. Hence, I hold St Mary’s school very close to my heart, as such I am keen to provide my supports and be involved in the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, in creating a safe and wellbeing environment for the children".
