Pre Easter Work

Week 1.

English 

  1. Go to www.literacyshed.com – Adventure Shed – Catch it!  Complete the following activities: 

  • Tell the story from a meerkat's point of view. 

  • Create an internal monologue for the vulture.

  • Describe the beautiful setting of the African plains. 

  • Create some dialogue between the meerkats at various points in the film. 

  1. (This website has a daily picture uploaded and activities to complete)  Go to www.Pobble365.com and complete:

  • Question Time and Sentence Challenge activities.

  1. Use the VIPERS questions on the class page to answer questions about your reading book or any other book you have at home.  If you do not have a book at home, please go to the library or search through www.youtube.co.uk where many books are read out aloud.  Alternatively, you can go to www.worldbook.kitaboo.com  which have over 3000 online ebooks for free.

  1.  Write words that are associated with the following words as we do in class

(Sparkle 5 words, Shine 10 words, Glow 15 words)  

  • UK

  • The Natural History Museum

  • The Tower of London

  • River Thames

  • Africa

  • Desert

Sparkle Activities:

  • Practice writing sentences that make sense and are joined by simple conjunctions as you would normally do in your reading record.

  • Write an alternative ending for Paddington 1.

Shine Activities:

  • Practice writing sentences with KS2 conjunctions as you would normally do in your reading record.

  • Write the next part of the story for Paddington.   Remember to say how, what and when is happening.  Can you use interesting words?

Glow Activities:

  • Practice writing sentences with KS2 conjunctions & WOW words as you would normally do in your reading record.

  • Write a sequel to Paddington.   Remember to say how, what and when is happening.  Can you extend and expand your sentences as we have been doing in class?  Use a semi colon to give more information.

 

Maths:

  1. Go to:  www.classroomsecrets.co.uk and type in Home Learning Packs/ Year 4

Complete the following activities:

  • Coordination Picture Instruction

  • Bus Timetable Chaser

 

  1. Go on TT Rockstars everyday for at least 30 mins.

 

Sparkle Activities:

  • Practice column addition and subtraction for 3 digit numbers.

  • Practice multiplication and division number sentences for 1 digit number x 1 digit numbers.

 

Shine Activities:

  • Practice column addition and subtraction for 4 digit numbers.

  • Practice multiplication and division number sentences for 1 digit number x  digit numbers.

  • Find fractions of different quantities e.g  ¾ of 45.

  • Choose 10 tenths and write them on a number line.

 

Glow Activities:

Practice column addition and subtraction for 5/6/7 digit numbers.

Practice multiplication and division number sentences for 2 digit number x 2  digit numbers.

Find fractions of different quantities e.g  ¾ of 45.

Choose 10 tenths and write them on a number line.

  • Choose 10 hundredths and write them on a number line.

Choose 3 practical activities from Classroom Secrets to complete.

  • Solid to Liquid to Solid

  • Sugar Crystals on a string

  • Soda Pop in a Balloon

 

RE:

  1. Retell the Easter Story.  

  • Sparkle:  Draw each part of the story in pictures and write a simple sentence for each picture.

  • Shine:  Write a retell of the Easter Story.

  • Glow:  Write the Easter Story from one person’s point of view e.g from Judas’ point of view or Peter’s point of view.

 

Week 2

English

1)Go to www.literacyshed.com – Fun Shed – High Diving Giraffes -   Complete the following activities: 

  • Write a news report of the event.

  • Describe the giraffe in detail.

  • Write through the eyes of the giraffe

 

2)(This website has a daily picture uploaded and activities to complete)   Go to www.Pobble365.com and complete:

Question Time and Sentence Challenge activities.

  1. Write a letter to me about a topic of interest.

Sparkle Activities:

Practice writing sentences that make sense and are joined by simple conjunctions as you would normally do in your reading record.

Write a recount of something you have done that you really enjoyed.

 

Shine Activities:

Practice writing sentences with KS2 conjunctions as you would normally do in your reading record.

Write a newspaper report about something real or imaginary.


Glow Activities:

Practice writing sentences with KS2 conjunctions & WOW words as you would normally do in your reading record.

Write a persuasive letter to someone about a topic you feel passionate about.  This could be to the Pope, a leader, a company CEO or me!

 

Maths:

  1. Go to:  www.mathshed.co.uk and sign up for a free 14 day trial.  Complete any of the Spring Term activities for Year 4.

  1. Go on to www.mathsframe.co.uk and complete the following free games: 

  • Marlon’s Magical Maths Mission

  • Archery Arithmetic 

  • Telling the Time

  • Maths Fishing

  • Crystal Crash

  • Thinking of a Number

  • Multiplication Times Tables Check

 

2)Go on TT Rockstars everyday for at least 30 mins.

Choose 3 practical activities from Classroom Secrets to complete.

 

Science:

1)Go to https://lifestyle.howstuffworks.com/crafts/science-projects/science-projects-for-kids-states-of-matter.htm and complete:

- Soap Bubble Soaps

- Water Surface Stretch

- Cut and Connect Water Drops

 

RE:

  • Draw a cross and decorate with events from the Easter Story.

  • Write a prayer for a community and decorate.

  • Read a parable and then write this for a younger child or make an item from the parable for us to guess when we are back in school.

 

Topic

  • Draw and label a map of part of London.

  • Draw and label a map of Tilbury.

  • Create an African pattern.

  • Make your own game up.

  • Test objects in your house to see if they float or sink

  • Write or say instructions on how to make a sandwich for someone to follow precisely.

  • Play Battleships

  • Invent something to solve a problem in your home

  • Make your own book

  • Invent your own musical instrument

  • Pick a word and see how many other words you can make from the letters

  • Put different amounts of water into glass containers and gently tap to make music

  • Learn to cook a new recipe with the food you have available. 

  • Build a model city with objects in your house

  • Practice coding using Scratch or code.org

  • Make your own tangrams

 

Suggested Timetable to keep a structure to the day for those children who may need it:

Before 9:00am Wake up – Eat breakfast, make your bed, get washed and dressed.

9:00am – 10:00am Morning Walk or exercises – Family walk or exercises in the house or garden.  Stretching, yoga & Supermovers.

10:00am – 12:00pm Academic Time – Complete any work given above.

12:00pm – 1:00pm Lunch & Free Time – get the children to help prepare the lunch if possible.

1:00pm – 2:30pm Academic Time – Complete any work given above.

2:30pm – 3:30pm Quiet Time – Reading, jigsaws, colouring

3:30pm – 5:00pm Free Time – Electronics for fun, playing with toys, TV

5:00pm – 6:00pm Dinner – Get the children to help prepare this if possible.

6:00pm – 7:00pm Free Time – NO ELECRONICS as research says this can affect sleep.  Play with siblings, read, build Lego models, listen to music

7:00pm – 8:00pm Bedtime Routine – Bath/shower, get ready for bed, have someone read a story to you.

8:00pm Bedtime A good time for Year 4 children to be in bed.
