Parable of Talents

At St Mary’s each class takes part in an annual 'Parable of the Talents' enterprise project, rooted in Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25:14–30, where we are reminded that God calls us to use our gifts wisely and responsibly for the good of others.

Each class is given £50 and challenged to use it creatively to generate as much money as possible, reflecting the Gospel call to be good stewards:

“To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given.” (Matthew 25:29)

Working collaboratively, pupils identify their individual and collective talents and organise an event for the rest of the school community.   Pupils are responsible for planning, budgeting, promoting, and running their events, developing confidence, leadership, and teamwork.

Funds raised are shared between charitable causes and the school. The Faith Council and School Council take responsibility for identifying priorities within the school and deciding how the money should be spent to benefit the whole community. This empowers pupils to live out the Gospel call to leadership and service:

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” (Mark 10:43)

Through the Parable of the Talents project, pupils learn that faith is not only something we believe, but something we put into action, developing a deeper understanding of how Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching shape our lives and our responsibility to others.
